Material & Construction

Crafted entirely from a single solid wood board.
No glue, no nails, no paint or surface finish — only solid wood and traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery.

All visible parts are natural wood.
No hidden fillers, coatings, or chemical treatments.

Purpose & Concept

This wooden pillow is designed to support healthier sleep posture by gradually encouraging the natural alignment of the cervical spine and the entire spinal chain.

The pillow features an adjustable height system, allowing users to slowly reduce pillow height over time.
With consistent use and proper sleeping habits, the goal is to eventually achieve comfortable, pillow-free sleep.

Important Notes Before Use

Effectiveness depends on three essential conditions:
– A firm bed
– A firm pillow
– Sleeping on your back

Users transitioning from soft pillows may experience an adaptation period of approximately three days.
During this time, temporary discomfort such as lower back soreness, leg tension, general body stiffness, or difficulty falling asleep may occur.

Discomfort typically peaks around the third day, then gradually decreases, and usually fades by the seventh day.

About the Modern Neck Problem

A healthy cervical spine naturally curves slightly backward toward the skull.
Prolonged use of computers and mobile devices often leads to forward head posture, causing this natural curve to flatten or even reverse.

For many modern adults, neck discomfort has become a near-universal condition driven by lifestyle rather than injury.

Design Philosophy — An Eastern Taoist Practice

The concept of the wooden pillow originates from traditional Taoist health practices.
Historically, practitioners commonly used firm pillows made of wood, stone, or jade.

Modern habits prioritize immediate comfort while overlooking long-term structural consequences.
Soft, high pillows tend to push the neck forward, increasing cervical strain over time and raising the risk of spinal chain imbalance as the body ages.

This pillow was designed to support cervical realignment through consistent sleep habits.
Its design is based on over a decade of seated meditation practice and long-term experimentation with classical Taoist sleep techniques, combining traditional theory with personal experience.

The pillow uses traditional mortise-and-tenon construction and a ventilated slatted structure for breathability.
Most importantly, it contains only solid wood — no glue, no nails, no paint — health you can see and understand.

Dual-Sided Use

The pillow is reversible.

– For back sleeping: place the curved side upward under the neck, allowing the back of the head to rest directly on the mattress.
– For side sleeping: place the flat side upward for improved comfort.

For cervical posture correction, back sleeping is required.

Dimensions & Adjustable Height System

Pillow length: 280 mm

The pillow consists of two side panels and eight slats joined by mortise-and-tenon joints.
The base includes one platform and two pairs of removable riser blocks, all assembled by hand without tools.

Four height configurations are available:
– Small: 34 mm
– Small Plus: 42 mm
– Medium: 52 mm
– Large: 62 mm

A lower pillow height generally indicates a more natural cervical posture.
As forward head posture increases with age, people tend to require higher pillows.

The pillow included in the set is the Small size.
Height is adjusted using the base and riser blocks.

If Medium height is required, cervical alignment deviation is moderate.
If Large height is required, deviation is more severe.

Personal Experience (Designer’s Note)

After more than a decade of intensive computer programming, the designer experienced significant cervical misalignment.

After using this pillow consistently for over two months, pillow height was reduced from Large to Small, with noticeable improvement in neck comfort and posture.

With continued use, users may gradually reduce height.
Being able to sleep comfortably at the Small height without the base indicates a near-return to natural cervical alignment.
The ultimate goal is comfortable, pillow-free sleep.

Huanyang Supine Sleeping Posture

This pillow is intended to be used with a specific supine sleeping posture derived from traditional Taoist practice.

Tested personally for over one year, this posture significantly improved long-term neck discomfort and sleep quality without adverse effects.

Posture Instructions:

  1. Lie naturally on your back. Place the pillow under the neck while allowing the back of the head to rest directly on the mattress, similar to an infant’s sleeping posture.

  2. Gently curl the hands into loose fists with the thumbs resting against the ring fingers. Place the arms alongside the body at a relaxed outward angle.

  3. Let the legs rest naturally at shoulder width. Relax the entire body and bring attention to natural breathing. Calm focus often leads to faster sleep onset.

Care & Maintenance

  1. If sweat or stains appear, wipe with a damp cloth. For deeper marks, lightly sand with the included sandpaper.

  2. Do not wash with water or expose to prolonged direct sunlight.

  3. Use a pillowcase. It absorbs sweat in summer and provides warmth in winter.

How to Start Using the Pillow

Begin with the Medium height configuration and place the pillow under the neck.

– If the neck does not make contact with the pillow, increase height using the riser blocks.
– If the neck feels overly pressured, reduce height.

With continued use, gradually lower the height over time.
